I grew up in Midland, Michigan, in a blue collar family. My dad worked on the shop floor at Dow Chemical and earned his way up to supervisor, but his opportunities for advancement were cut short due to health issues that required a warmer climate. My dad was determined to continue providing for our family, health issues aside, so we moved to several different states until we settled in Arizona. It was in Arizona where my dad re-educated himself through a skill-trades program. He became a journeyman electrician and continued to provide for our family.
He took advantage of the post-secondary education being offered in the area and seized the moment for our family's opportunity. Looking back on those formative years it was hard work, perseverance, and dedication that motivated my dad to provide a comfortable living for our family; something that was possible to do in the` 1970's, but that's not always the case today. It is these formative values that are still my trusted principles today.
My purpose for seeking office is rooted in my desire to care and help others achieve fundamental accomplishments so they, in turn, can provide for their families and their communities. Just as my dad rolled up his sleeves to provide for our family, I will take that same approach to representing you in the Statehouse. I want to help others realize the same American dream that my family achieved. I believe we should help people when they are in need and give them every opportunity to succeed. This theme of my campaign is at the core of my desire to care for others.
